Nainital is also known as the lake of Himalaya and the city of lakes situated between the Kumaun hills. Nainital has been mentioned in the Manas section of Sri Skanda Purana as the "lake of three saints" or in the form of three sages - Sarovar. There were three sages once, whose names were Atri, Pulastya and Pulah, who stayed in Nainital to eradicate their thirst. But they did not get any water. Then they dug a pit.
